 The world’s thirst for energy
continues to increase. Producers of petroleum and natural gas
must
look to poorer
quality reservoirs, those containing hydrogen sulfide and
carbon dioxide, to fill the void. Producing these resources
is dangerous because of the presence of toxic hydrogen sulfide.
And the question arises as to what
can be done with the by-products of these processes. Hydrogen
sulfide, if present if sufficient
quantities can be converted to something more benign – elemental
sulfur. However, as the production of
sulfur increases, certainly the demand and the price will fall.

Fekete Keynote Speaker
Abbas Firoozabadi
has
published some 150 Journal papers in petroleum interface,
thermodynamics of hydrocarbon
reservoirs and production, and multiphase multi-species flow in
permeable media. Firoozabadi has published
mainly in the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)
Journals, AIChE Journal, Journal of Chemical Physics,
Journal of Physical Chemistry B, Langmuir, Water Resources
Research, Advances in Water Resources, and Journal
of Computational Physics.
